The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) said today, Tuesday, that the US State Department has approved a possible deal to sell Patriot missiles and related equipment to Saudi Arabia worth $3.05 billion, quoting Archyde.com.
The Pentagon also said the State Department had approved a potential deal to sell a missile defense system and related equipment to the UAE at an estimated cost of $2.25 billion.
On Tuesday, the US State Department approved the sale of 300 Patriot missiles to Saudi Arabia. Simultaneously, the US Central Command confirmed the holding of joint exercises with Riyadh.
The US Central Command stated that “the maneuvers with Saudi Arabia are aimed at confronting any potential regional threats.”
Regarding the missile deal, Washington said that “the expected deal with Saudi Arabia aims to improve the security of a partner that is considered a force for political stability.”
The US State Department stated that “the Patriot missile deal aims to protect Saudi Arabia and the region from threats.”
She pointed out that “the deal includes technical and engineering support and logistics services, as well as testing systems, spare parts, transportation and training programs.”
The US State Department also reported the approval of an arms deal for the UAE, including the THAAD missile system.
She stressed that “the UAE is a vital partner for the political and economic stability of the Middle East.”
