(CNN)–The US State Department announced, on Friday, the removal of 5 foreign terrorist organizations as well as 6 deceased individuals from the list of global terrorists, and the ministry stressed that “the United States will remain committed to combating terrorist activities around the world.”
The US State Department said in a statement, “The Basque ETA, Aum Shinrikyo, the Mujahideen Shura Council in the vicinity of Jerusalem, the Kahana Live Movement, and the Jamaat-e-Islami will continue to be designated as special global terrorist entities.”
“It maintains these global terrorism designations for a number of reasons, including to support law enforcement actions or to ensure that frozen assets of active terrorist individuals are not released,” the department added.
And the US State Department pointed out, in its statement, that, “in addition to canceling the classifications of the five organizations as foreign terrorist organizations, it is also announcing its removal of the names of 6 individuals from the lists of globally designated terrorists, due to their death. They are: Abu Al-Warda, Mohad Moallem, and Farah Muhammad.” Shirdon, Musa Abu Dawood, Ali Ashab Kebekov, and Ibrahim Al-Rubaish.
The ministry said that it “reviews the designations of foreign terrorist organizations every five years, as required by the Immigration and Nationality Act, to determine whether the circumstances that caused the designation have changed in a way that warrants revocation.”
She explained: “Our recent review of these five FTO designations indicated that these organizations are no longer engaged in terrorism or terrorist activity and do not retain the ability and intent to do so, therefore, as required by the Immigration and Naturalization Act, these FTO designations have been rescinded. “.
She emphasized that these measures are intended to “demonstrate the intent of the United States to comply with legal requirements to review and revoke designations of foreign terrorist organizations when facts dictate such action, but they do not condone terrorist acts or justify terrorist acts in which each of these groups has previously engaged or The harm that the organizations have inflicted on their victims is an acknowledgment of the success achieved by Egypt, Israel, Japan and Spain in defusing the threat of terrorism through these groups.
“The de-designation of foreign terrorist organizations and the delisting of deceased individuals ensures that our terrorism sanctions remain valid and credible and do not reflect any change in policy toward the past activities of any of these terrorists or the organizations of which they were members,” she stressed.
