The US has imposed sanctions on 19 Indian businesses for helping Russia in the Ukraine war. The sanctions imposed by the US Treasury Department will apply to a total of 400 entities and individuals.
19 of the banned entities are from India. These institutions are accused of providing technologies considered to be important to strengthen Russia’s position in the Ukraine war.
The US Treasury Department has said in a statement that businesses from India, China, Switzerland, Thailand and Turkey have provided goods and technologies containing the latest technologies to strengthen Russia’s war machine.
The US Treasury Department has also targeted senior Russian Defense Ministry officials and entities related to Russia’s future energy production and exports.
U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Willie Adeyemo said the U.S. and its allies are monitoring countries and organizations around the world that are bent on providing Russia with the technologies, weapons, and machinery it needs to enter the war.
The United States has warned that strict action will be taken against the organizations that violate the sanctions.
The US Department of Commerce is also trying hard to ensure that Russia does not receive significant quantities or quantities of goods needed to keep the war machine strong.
China, Kazakhstan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates are going to be the main countries in terms of supply of dual-use technologies and goods.
The Western media have said in their reports that with the help of these countries, Russia is very successful in maintaining its war capability. The US and Europe have been trying for two years to end the war in Ukraine and prevent it from spreading to any European country. Europe has been making half-hearted efforts in this matter, while America has shown more enthusiasm.

**Interviewer:** Welcome to our discussion on the recent geopolitical developments surrounding the war in Ukraine. Today, we’re joined by Dr. Anjali Patel, a geopolitical analyst with expertise in international relations. Dr. Patel, thank you for being here.
**Dr. Patel:** Thank you for having me.
**Interviewer:** Let’s dive into the recent sanctions imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department. They have targeted 19 Indian businesses among a total of 400 entities and individuals for their support of Russia in the Ukraine conflict. What implications do you foresee for U.S.-India relations following these sanctions?
**Dr. Patel:** The sanctions will certainly create tension in U.S.-India relations. India has traditionally maintained a non-aligned stance and has significant ties with Russia, particularly in defense and energy sectors. These sanctions not only strain that relationship but may also complicate India’s diplomatic balancing act.
**Interviewer:** Yes, can you elaborate on the specific accusations against these Indian businesses? What technologies are they alleged to have provided?
**Dr. Patel:** The U.S. Treasury has accused these entities of supplying critical technologies that bolster Russia’s military capacity in the Ukraine war. This includes advanced goods and technologies that could enhance Russia’s defense mechanisms significantly.
**Interviewer:** In addition to India, the sanctions have also targeted companies from China, Switzerland, Thailand, and Turkey. How do you see this affecting the global supply chain, particularly concerning military technologies?
**Dr. Patel:** These widespread sanctions indicate a growing scrutiny of international supply chains, particularly those involving military technologies. There could be significant disruptions as countries reassess their business relationships and the potential for secondary sanctions. Companies worldwide will need to tread carefully to avoid becoming targets themselves.
**Interviewer:** Moving forward, how do you think the international community, particularly allies of the U.S., will respond to these sanctions?
**Dr. Patel:** I expect stronger alignment among U.S. allies in upholding sanctions against those who support Russia. However, countries with deep-rooted ties to Russia, like India, may continue to advocate for dialogue and a diplomatic resolution, which could lead to a divided approach within the international community.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Patel, for your insights today. It’s clear that these sanctions are just one part of a complex geopolitical landscape. We appreciate your analysis.
**Dr. Patel:** Thank you for having me.
