Amendments to the Holy Harbor Law are moving forward in the Seimas Business

If the entire Seimas approves them, the port will be able to receive ships in the future for the development and maintenance of future wind parks in the Baltic Sea.

The mayor of Palanga, Šarūnas Vaitkus, says that the tender for the contractor for the construction of piers in Šventoji port is to be announced at the beginning of next year.

“At the beginning of next year, we are thinking of announcing an international tender for the construction of jetties”, Š. reported to the Seimas committee this week. Children.

According to him, the European Commission has released funds for the municipality – regarding 16 million. EUR – to be used for the needs of the port. Currently, the pier is already being designed.

“We will be able to use them (European funds – BNS) to build piers in the sea. If there are no jetties, there is nothing to talk regarding the port,” said the mayor.

Once the jetties were built, the port would be dredged and operational. Sh. According to Vaitkaus, regarding 300 yachts might be moored there.

In addition, army rescue ships might be on duty in Šventoja to participate in the liquidation of incidents at the Būtingė oil terminal.

“Rescue ships will be able to moor at one quay. Now the Būtinge terminal, which requires a rescue ship, is regarding 3.5 km away from Šventoji port. After the accident, the rescue ship should now sail from Klaipėda – regarding three hours. It’s too long to swim that much. In the event of a major accident – an oil spill in the sea or a pipeline break – it would be a great tragedy if there was no immediate response,” said Š. Children.

The port of Šventoji might be adapted for ships serving the future wind parks in the Baltic Sea in 2027.

Since this year, the Šventoji seaport has been managed by the directorate established by Palanga municipality.
