AMD to ship 200,000 GPUs for RX 7900 launch

This is information that contradicts a lot of rumors regarding the release AMD’s new RX 7900 cards. According to Kyle Bennett and several other sources, the total number of Navi 31 GPUs AMD expects to ship this quarter is around 200,000 units, a volume well above what Nvidia did for its RTX 4090s and 4080s. The Navi 31 chip equips the RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT thanks to two versions of the GPU. In addition to this volume, which obviously should not be available on D-Day, it is also specified that 30,000 reference cards are in stock for the day of launch.

Kyle Bennett has over 20 years of history in PC hardware – He is the founder of hardocp and went through Intel – He is a very reliable source of information

If we take a step back on this information, this means that the purchase should be a less tense operation but that the volumes for the partners will arrive but gradually. For several weeks information contradictory circulating on the actual availability of the RX 7900 for this launch. Even with these announced volumes (keep in mind that Nvidia shipped 160,000 GPUs in total for the RTX 4090 and the 4080 in mid-November), the end of the year will be tense for AMD.

The rush for a reference model promises to be intense, especially since the custom cards of the red partners will necessarily have a higher price. It is very likely that the situation will settle down following the holidays. But clearly, this latest information seems to leave the hope of being able to have a card at its public price in the next few hours.
