AMD gives a first look at the overclocking potential of the upcoming Ryzen 7000 processors. Even before the market launch, the Ryzen 9 7950X was able to collect the first records and, despite a 20 percent overclock, was “only” accompanied by AiO water cooling. That means: With LN2 cooling and even higher clocking, there is still room for improvement.

The new CPU generation from AMD was officially unveiled on August 30th and is scheduled to be available on September 27th. You can expect an average of 13 percent higher performance per clock (IPC) compared to Ryzen 5000 and overall more performance through increased clock rates. In the case of the top model up to 5.7 GHz possible be with some luck boosts the CPU may be even higher.

As AMD now announced in a press release, AMD’s own XOC team overclocked the Ryzen 9 7950X before the market launch, breaking some records (among 16 cores). The processor was doing around regarding 20% overclocked (5.4 – 5.5 GHz all-core) and equipped with a 280 mm AiO water cooling system.

The results (with link to HWBOT entry):

The 7950X thus beats the previous king Core i9-12900KS (with 40.0412 points), which, however, had to be clocked at 7.0 GHz and cooled with nitrogen (LN2). Interestingly, however, an even higher result is already appearing on HWBOT, where the Ryzen 9 7950X clocks at 6.45 GHz even to 48,235 points comes.

It seems like the upcoming AMD top model has some OC potential to offer. According to AMD, however, this should only “a preview of overclocking performance” be. Results with LN2 cooling and even higher clock speeds will be published “soon”. It’s quite possible that the already surfaced at HWBOT results are meant.

Already crazy what kind of spheres we’ve arrived in by now? So, 6.5 GHz on all 16 cores – not bad. Let’s be surprised how the first test reports on the Ryzen 7000 and the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X turn out.
