AMD may finally release new gaming graphics cards in the coming weeks. After the launch of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX, the hardware giant is expected to expand its high-performance offerings with the Radeon RX 7800 XT, a model that, according to rumors released on Monday (24), should perform close to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.
It is common for video cards aimed at professional applications from the brand to have the same graphics chip as the variants for games, and recently, AMD introduced the Radeon PRO W7800 with a “skimmed” version of the Navi 31 GPU that will possibly be used in the Radeon RX 7800 XT, ensuring high performance at a more affordable price.
The Navi 31 GPU used in the Radeon PRO W7800 has 70 compute units (4,480 stream processors), which might give the card some breathing room to reach performance equivalent (or better) than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The main advantage of AMD’s hardware would be its price significantly lower than that charged by NVIDIA.
It is worth noting that the “PRO” variants often boast twice the video memory of gaming graphics cards. Radeon PRO W7900, for example, has 48 GB of GDDR6 VRAM with 384-bit bus and error correction code (ECC), while Radeon RX 7900 XT offers 24 GB of GDDR6 VRAM with 384-bit bus, but without ECC .
Given that the differences between versions for games and professional applications are usually limited to the features offered, it is possible that Radeon RX 7800 XT has 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM (half of Radeon PRO W7800) and 64 MB of Infinity Cache. Still not sure regarding the memory bus, but the most realistic bet is a bus de 256 bits.
Expected to be officially announced at Computex 2023, which will take place between May 30th and June 2nd, the Radeon RX 7800 XT might be sold with MSRP around $649 (around BRL 3,289), which would be around 18% cheaper than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which costs USD 799 in the United States.
