AMD Phoenix RDNA3 iGPU is as fast as a slow-moving GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU

AMD Phoenix APU with intermediate independent GPU performance

Greymon55 claims that the integrated graphics contained in the AMD Phoenix APU may exhibit similar performance to the power-locked version of the RTX 3060 mobile.

The AMD Ryzen 7000 Series officially includes two mobile series: Dragon Range for high-performance laptops and Phoenix for thin and light designs. The latter is now expected to appear Rituals RDNA3 Integrated architecture with Gen 4 computing cores.

Phoenix APUs run in the 35 to 45 watt range, i.e. the Ryzen 7000HS and 7000H series. This power is not only for graphics, but also for Zen4 cores and other integrated logic. Greymon claims that only an integrated RDNA3 GPU can deliver the 60W (formerly known as Max-Q) performance of the RTX 3060M which will be big news for “light” gaming.

It should be noted that the 60W version of the RTX 3060 is not as popular as the latest builds, but it can be found on laptops like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2021, and it supports dynamic boost (+20W). Side comparisons can be tricky. However, the RTX 3060M Glass-GPU, with this limited power, is 30% slower than the fully open variant. It ships with a GPU clocked in the 817-1282 MHz range, which is well below the 1702 MHz clock speed of the 115W variant.

Meanwhile, AMD Ryzen integrated RDNA graphics are already charging at 2.4GHz (Ryzen 9 6900HS). The AMD Phoenix iGPU processor will use 5nm process technology and additional upgrades that will enhance the iGPU clock. Therefore, the Phoenix RDNA3 iGPU does not need multiple shaders like the RTX 3060, it should be faster.

NVIDIA was aiming for 1080p HD gaming with its RTX 3060 laptops. Sure, DLSS support played a role in the popularity of the 3060M, but AMD released its ultra-high-resolution FSR technology and might soon offer similar performance on laptops that don’t even have discrete GPUs.
