Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of US e-commerce giant Amazon.com, announced its intention to establish a cloud computing infrastructure area in Thailand.

The company said the AWS Region in Thailand will allow developers, start-ups and foundations as well as government, educational institutions and non-profit organizations in Thailand to manage their applications and serve end users through Amazon Web Services data centers located in Thailand.

Furthermore, the company intends to invest more than $5 billion in Thailand over 15 years, as part of the Infrastructure District Project.

The “AWS Region” in Thailand will consist of three so-called “availability regions”, in addition to the 87 “availability domains” of the US company located in 27 geographic regions around the world.

Amazon Web Services announced plans to set up 24 additional availability domains in 8 AWS regions in Australia, Canada, India, Israel, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand.
