Amazon Unveils Its Latest Distribution Center Near Graz

2024-09-19 08:08:36

After three locations in Vienna and one in Klagenfurt, the shipping giant Amazon has now opened its fifth distribution center in Austria in Premstätten, south of Graz. Around two years after the groundbreaking ceremony, more than 130 people are employed. In addition, around 200 drivers are now receiving orders as local delivery partners through the distribution center, it said in a press release.

A building with 11,100 square meters of gross floor space was built on a 6.2 hectare site, in which millions of packages will now be running over the conveyor belts. The construction period was 14 months. The site also has a parking garage with almost 700 parking spaces for delivery partners’ vans. There are also 223 parking spaces available for employees. Miriam Enzi, Regional Manager of Amazon Logistics Austria, emphasized: “Styria plays a central role in our logistics strategy because its geographical location makes it a hub for the entire southern Austrian region and at the same time it has a strong local economy that supports our efforts through reliable partnerships.”

The distribution center in Premstätten is to serve as the heart of Amazon’s logistics in Styria. From here, packages are distributed throughout the region. The delivery partners’ vehicles can be fully loaded within about 15 minutes. The delivery of the packages – the so-called “last mile” – is to take place via the nearby Pyhrn motorway (A9) in order to place as little strain as possible on the low-level road network. At peak times such as Christmas, additional seasonal jobs could also be created at the site. Incidentally, the first package sorted in the distribution center was an order containing the paperback by Tom Gates entitled “Yes! No (Maybe…)”.
