A Amazon is communicating to subscribers of the Prime Videoits video streaming service, which will begin showing ads on the platform’s content — unless customers pay an additional fee — within a few weeks.
The change (for worse) isn’t exactly a surprise, as Amazon had announced these plans last September. More precisely, ads will start showing from January 29th and customers will be able to avoid advertisements by paying an extra fee US$3 per month — yes, on top of the common monthly/annual subscription fee for Amazon Prime.
We’re writing to you today regarding an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting January 29, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited ads. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and growing that investment over a longer period of time. Our goal is to have significantly fewer ads than cable TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required on your part and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership.
Perhaps as an attempt to soften the news, the company listed in the statement to its customers all the other benefits of the Amazon Prime subscription, as well as teasing “additional features and programs in the future”.
Fortunately, therefore, Brazil e Portugal they escaped — at first — the change. But until when, huh? ????
