The company announced on Thursday, November 14, that Amazon Prime members now have access to affordable solutions for common health concerns such as hair loss, anti-aging, and erectile dysfunction, with monthly costs starting as low as $16, $10, and $19, respectively.
According to a company news release, this new initiative is part of the Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit telehealth service, which provides comprehensive care for a wide array of conditions, along with the convenience of on-demand messaging visits with certified healthcare professionals.
“Building on this foundation, Amazon is today introducing low, clear upfront pricing for a clinical visit, treatment plan, and fast, free medication delivery for Prime members for a range of common health, beauty, and lifestyle concerns, including anti-aging skin care treatment, men’s hair loss, erectile dysfunction, eyelash growth, and motion sickness,” the company stated, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing consumer health and wellness.
According to the release, Prime members will be able to view the total monthly cost or per-use pricing for both the Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit virtual consultations and the medications offered through Amazon Pharmacy tailored for their chosen treatment before initiating their care journey. Once they receive their treatment plan, Prime members can effortlessly order their prescribed medications from Amazon Pharmacy with just a few clicks.
The new offering follows Amazon One’s recent rollout of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools, specifically designed to minimize the amount of time family physicians spend managing paperwork, thus improving efficiency.
“By reducing these distractions, Amazon One Medical clinicians can focus on why many of us became doctors in the first place — to develop caring and personal relationships with our patients to help them get and stay healthy,” Andrew Diamond, MD, chief medical officer at Amazon One, remarked during the company’s announcement, underlining the significance of patient relationship in healthcare.
“The traditional business model is evolving with a focus on the consumer and closer integration with health plans and payers,” Van Antwerp noted. “Pharmacies are looking at ways to engage consumers differently through digital and other channels. They are investigating how data and AI [artificial intelligence] can create more personalized interactions. At the same time, they are expanding and improving their mobile and web functionality while offering new delivery options. While most newer pharmacies haven’t captured significant market share, they have nonetheless spurred industry incumbents to reevaluate their business models, services, and investment strategies.”
