Amazon: more than 6 million counterfeit items disposed of in 2022

In the past year, more than 6 million items were confiscated and disposed of, the world’s largest online retailer said in a report published on Tuesday. The year before, there was talk of around 3 million counterfeit products stopped. At the same time, Amazon recognizes that its measures have a deterrent effect. The number of accounts that “actors with bad intentions” want to create is falling. In 2020 Amazon stopped 6 million such attempts, in 2021 it was around 2.5 million and last year only 800,000. Amazon manager Dharmesh Mehta emphasized that further data showed that there was an actual drop in activity.

Amazon not only sells goods itself, but also acts as a platform for other retailers – product counterfeiters often try to use this as a gateway. That is why the group expanded, among other things, the controls when setting up a dealer account. In addition, 8 billion changes to pages with product offers are automatically checked for signs of attempted misuse every day.
