Amazon Launches X-Ray Recaps: New AI Feature for Enhanced Prime Video Experience

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Amazon on Monday (4/11) announced the presence of X-Ray Recaps, a new generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based feature on Prime Video that can summarize entire seasons, single episodes, or parts of broadcast episodes.

As quoted in the broadcast TechCrunch on Monday (4/11), the company confirmed the implementation of a security system to prevent AI from producing spoiler so that viewers can enjoy their favorite series without worrying about being exposed to unwanted information.

Prime Video’s newest feature is an expansion of the existing X-Ray feature, which displays information such as details about the cast and other trivia when the user pauses the show.

To use X-Ray Recaps, users can visit a TV show’s details page, where a new replay icon allows users to choose from three options, namely a recap of the current episode, a recap of the entire season so far, or a recap of previous seasons.

X-Ray Recaps is currently in beta and will only be available to Fire TV customers in the United States initially.

Users can access this feature on all of MGM Studios’ Amazon-produced original titles, including “Daisy Jones & the Six,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “The Wheel of Time,” and “The Boys” at launch.

The X-Ray Recaps feature is planned to be rolled out to additional devices at the end of the year.

According to Amazon’s explanation on their blog, this feature leverages a combination of custom AI models built with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker to analyze videos, subtitles, and dialogue to depict important events, conversations, and other information.

Amazon states that this feature is completely personalized to match the exact moment the user is watching.

So, whether users have just watched a few minutes of a new episode, are in the middle of a season, or are returning to a forgotten series, real-time.

The launch of Prime Video’s new feature was announced after Google TV launched AI-based summaries, a similar tool that creates short synopses of TV shows and movies.
