Although smart speakers are not devices intended for children —Because reasons obvious— have already invaded many of our homes. So, why not take advantage of adapting Alexa content for the little ones in the house and thus have more control over what they can or cannot do with our speakers? With this goal in mind, Alexa Kids was born.
Amazon’s new functionality lands for the first time in Spain and promises to offer tighter control to parents who want to ensure that their children do not misuse an Echo device. Incidentally, Amazon offers to show educational content to children with which they can also have fun.
Starting today, Alexa users will be able to create a special profile aimed at children up to 13 years old that will allow us to activate or deactivate some features. Users will have the possibility to associate it to a specific device or to activate it automatically with the detection of profiles.
This new child profile includes an explicit content filter that will prevent Alexa from showing content that is not suitable for younger children, both in their responses and in streaming services such as Spotify or Amazon Music. Parents will also be able to limit the time children can use this device or set schedules for its use.
From our profile, we can enable or disable smart home features. Let’s say, for example, that children enjoy being mischievous with the lights in the house. It would be enough to disable that function from the control panel so that they can no longer manage them through any Echo device. In addition, the voice purchase system will also be blocked.
