Amanda Todd’s cyberstalker found guilty

The Dutchman accused of harassing and extorting teenager Amanda Todd, who took her own life following the harassment, was found guilty on Saturday of five counts, Global News reported.

The jury found Aydin Coban guilty of five counts, including possession of child pornography, extortion, criminal harassment and communicating with a young person to commit a sexual offence, during the trial in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. .

“Hearing the charges…there are no words to explain what my heart feels,” the teenager’s mother, Carol Todd, told the media shortly following the verdict was announced.

“This is the culmination of what Amanda went through and the truth of it all. Now Aydin Coban has been found guilty, and I knew in my heart it was him.”

Judge Martha Devlin had asked the jury to pay “special attention” to statements that had been made by Amanda before her death. She had also informed the jury of the limit of the evidence given due to the death of the teenager in October 2012.

The 44-year-old was accused of using 22 online aliases to harass Amanda Todd during four ‘episodes’.

Recall that the teenager was 15 years old when she took her own life following indicating in a video posted online that she had been the victim of an online stalker.

Aydin Coban was extradited to Canada in 2020.
