Josh, Voodoo Jürgens, Melissa Naschenweng and RAF Camora are among the eight genre winners of the 23rd Amadeus Austrian Music Awards. The fact that the FM4 Award will go to Oskar Haag and the Lifetime Amadeus to Karl Ratzer is also clear in the run-up to the gala taking place tomorrow, Friday, at Vienna’s Volkstheater. It is still unclear who will receive the awards in the categories Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Live Act of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

In the past few days, the eight winners of the genre categories have been announced bit by bit: As in the previous year, Josh was able to assert himself in pop/rock, who can also hope for song of the year with “Von dir ein Tattoo”. There was also no change compared to the previous year in the Hip-Hop/Urban category, with RAF Camora ultimately winning the award. The rapper might also dust off further awards with the song “Last Mal” and the album “Palmen aus Plastik 3”. In the alternative category, singer-songwriter Voodoo Jürgens prevailed, whose third album “Wie die Nocht noch jung wor” was released at the end of the previous year.

Melissa Naschenweng prevailed in the hits/folk music category and thus defended her previous year’s success. The Salzburg death/black metal band Belphegor secured the Hard & Heavy award. LUM!X feat. Pia Maria got the win in the Electronic/Dance category. Last year’s two starters at the Eurovision Song Contest also have a chance at Song of the Year with “Halo”. Jazz/World/Blues trophy went to jazz formation Shake Stew. The septet around band leader Lukas Kranzelbinder released their fifth album “Heat” last year. The Best Sound award went to Lemo for “Something in Thirty”.

For more than two weeks it has been clear that the Viennese jazz guitarist Karl Ratzer will be honored for his life’s work. Born in precarious circumstances in 1950 to two concentration camp survivors, he has been one of the world leaders in his genre for decades. In the 1960s he began to shape Austrian rock history with formations such as The Slaves and Gipsy Love before moving to the USA and to jazz. Oskar Haag is only at the beginning of his career and can look forward to the FM4 award, making him the youngest Amadeus winner to date. The teenager recently released his critically acclaimed debut album Teenage Lullabies.

The award ceremony will take place on Friday in the Volkstheater, with FM4 presenter Nina Hochrainer and Ö3 presenter Philipp Hansa leading the show. This can be seen from 10.50 p.m. on ORF 1. The winners who are still outstanding will be announced and also performed live. Wanda, Edmund, Oskar Haag, Yasmo & die Klangkantine, Mira Lu Kovacs and Pia Maria, for example, should all perform their music.
