Researchers from an international collaboration have identified 75 genetic risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease, reports Futura Health. The results of this study, led by Insermwere published this Monday, April 4, 2022 in the scientific journal Nature Genetics. Among these 75 genetic risk factors, 42 had never been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease until today.
However, this is one of the main issues concerning this pathology, the complex multifactorial nature of which is well known today. It is now a question of being able to identify the genetic elements involved in this disease to better understand its origin and thus try to find therapeutic solutions.

Scientists have identified 75 regions of #genome associated with the disease#Alzheimer.
They also built a #score of risk which makes it possible to better evaluate the evolution of the disease in people suffering from cognitive disorders.

A genetic risk score developed
In total, the researchers notably analyzed data from 111,326 people. Some with Alzheimer’s disease and others with relatives suffering from this pathology. At the same time, 677,663 healthy “controls” were also carried out.
In order to improve diagnosis of this diseasethe researchers developed a “genetic risk score” to better identify people with cognitive disorders who are at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease within 3 years following the disorders are identified.
This score is not intended for clinical practice but rather for setting up therapeutic trials.
