Alzheimer’s disease: from memory loss to addiction

2023-09-21 08:00:03

On the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day, we take stock of this neurodegenerative disease, the most common among the elderly. In France, nearly 900,000 people are affected by this disease which mainly affects memory, but also other functions such as the ability to communicate, to do several things at the same time or the actions of daily life.

Most often appearing following the age of 65, Alzheimer’s disease has, to date, no treatment capable of curing or slowing the progression of the disease. How to live with the illness ? How to detect it at an early stage?

  • Pr Richard Lévy, neurologist, director of the Institute of Memory and Alzheimer’s Disease at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, director of Frontlab research laboratory at the Brain Institute (ICM) and professor of Neurology at the Sorbonne University Faculty of Health

  • Professor Mofou Belo, neurologist in Lomé, Togo and head of the non-communicable disease surveillance division in Ministry of Health.

  • Report from Charlie Dupiot.
