Alyson Annan, Dutch hockey coach, fired for psychological abuse

The Netherlands Field Hockey Coach Alyson Annan, that won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the final against Argentina (3-1), she was fired this Wednesday after an investigation by psychological abuse of female players.

The investigation, unveiled by the public channel NOS last November, focused on alleged verbal and psychological abuse by Annan, as well as a culture of silence in the locker room. “The federation and the selector differ in the approach of the current process to improve cooperation and group culture,” said the Royal Netherlands Hockey Federation (KNHB) in a statement.

Annan herself said in the KNHB statement that “there is no difference of opinion on what can be improved, but on how to tackle it”, that is to say, that her vision to solve the problem does not coincide with that of the federation.
