The NFL announced Friday that New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara has been suspended for three games in 2022 for his role in a brawl outside a Las Vegas nightclub. This decision comes following a settlement reached by Kamara in July, which now protects him from further legal consequences.
Kamara, 28, spoke to the media before the suspension was announced, admitting his mistake. “I was completely wrong. I embarrassed the Saints, I embarrassed my family and my mother. I embarrassed myself, embarrassed the city, and of course the sign embarrassed the NFL,” Kamara said ruefully.
The talented running back, who was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017, is a key part of the team and has been named to the Pro Bowl five times. Since his career began with the New Orleans Saints, he has performed impressively, amassing more than 1,300 scrimmage yards each year. With 5,135 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns as well as 430 receptions for 3,753 yards and 22 touchdowns in 88 career games, Kamara has established himself as one of the best running backs in the league.
The suspension means Kamara will not be available for the first three games of the season once morest the Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers. He is expected to make his debut for the 2023 season on October 1st at home once morest the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With Alvin Kamara unable to play, the Saints are expected to rely on veteran running back Jamaal Williams and rookie Kendre Miller, who was selected by the team in the third round. In the past, New Orleans has played without Kamara and has had mixed success of 3 wins and 7 losses.
Cornerback Chris Lammons, who was also involved in the incident, was also suspended for three games. Lammons recently signed with the Indianapolis Colts. The suspension of Kamara and Lammons will undoubtedly have an impact on the Saints and the team will have to work hard to compensate for these absences in the first few games of the season.
