Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Most people believe that using aluminum foil is safe and not harmful to health, but the Food and Drug Authority in Saudi Arabia has revealed the opposite, through its official account on Twitter.
The wrong use of aluminum foil, that is, tin, leads to food contamination, as it is commonly used in cooking and wrapping foods.
Here are its most common uses:
- Packaging some foods to protect them from drying out, losing flavors, or transferring odors to them
- Protecting food from exposure to light, which affects some foods that contain fats, such as chocolate, and some sweets that can change their smell due to exposure to light.
Do not use aluminum foil for:
- Cook or heat food
- Preserving acidic or highly salty foods
- High temperatures inside the oven or exposing it directly to the flame
- Microwave ovens and replace them with the appropriate utensils
Is using aluminum foil harmful to health?
And the Food and Drug Authority in Saudi Arabia stated, in a tweet via its official account on “Twitter”, that it is not harmful to health if used in a correct and proper manner, noting that the use of aluminum foil for purposes not intended for it, leads to food contamination.
