Alpine skiing – Worlds: Michelle Gisin and Wendy Holdener face Mikaela Shiffrin in combined – rts.ch

The Méribel and Courchevel World Championships begin on Monday with the women’s combined. Wendy Holdener and Michelle Gisin are logically among the contenders for the medals.

It is very likely that the combined event will be the last in history: this discipline which consecrates the versatile will probably disappear. But the FIS has decided to maintain the event during major events. To the delight of Michelle Gisin and Wendy Holdener, respectively 1st and 2nd at the Beijing Olympics.

Gisin took a 5-day break

For this probable last, Michelle Gisin and Wendy Holdener will be very motivated. But the two women know that Mikaela Shiffrin stands in their way. Defending champion, in great shape with 11 victories including the Super-G of St-Moritz, the American is clearly in favor of the forecast.

Michelle Gisin, who has competed in all the races this season – 28 events – preferred to take a 5-day break to recharge her batteries. “I feel ready for these 2 weeks“, she explains. Two weeks that will see the double Olympic champion in the discipline tackle the combined, then the Super-G before training for the downhill and the technical events.

Double combined world champion in 2017 and 2019, Wendy Holdener for her part trained for two days by simulating the combined each time. So she did Super-G in the morning and slalom in the followingnoon.
