Alpine skiing – The 2027 Worlds awarded to Crans-Montana (Switzerland)

The 2027 Alpine Skiing World Championships have been awarded to the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana by the board of the International Ski Federation (FIS), the body announced on Wednesday in a press release. The Valais resort therefore inherits the Worlds following failing to win the 2025 edition, awarded to Saalbach (Austria). The next edition of the competition will take place next winter in the French resorts of Courchevel and Méribel.

Meeting in Milan on Wednesday, the FIS council also decreed that the ban on fluorinated products for waxing skis, deemed harmful to health and the environment, would be effective next season, several years following the initial announcement. In cross-country skiing, it was also decided that the men’s and women’s World Cup races would now be held over the same distances (men’s races were always longer until now) with a sprint format and races of 10, 20 and 50km.
