Alpine skiing – Slalom of Lienz (F): Shiffrin ends the year with another victory

After winning the giant slalom in Lienz on Thursday, Mikaela Shiffrin this time dominated the slalom in Austria. The American therefore ends the year 2023 in style with a 93rd World Cup victory.

Mikaela Shiffrin definitely feels at home in Lienz. Indeed, the day following her victory in the giant slalom in Austria, the American signed another very good victory this Friday by winning the slalom. Already in great form during the first round in the morning, where she achieved the best time, the 28-year-old skier confirmed her domination by once once more setting the best time during the second round. At the finish, Shiffrin finished more than two seconds ahead of her runner-up, the German Lena Duerr (at 2”34), while the Swiss Michelle Gisin (at 2”45) took the lead. 3rd place on the podium. Thanks to this double in Lienz, the American is ending the year 2023 in the best possible way, she who now has 93 World Cup victories to her immense record.

Shiffrin continues success in Lienz

« I felt extremely good on the skis. My entire start to the season was built to achieve this. It’s a very good feeling », declared the latter in particular following her race, at the FIS microphone. Note that the latter won her 5th victory this Friday in the Austrian resort, i.e. three times the slalom (in 2017, 2019 and 2023) and twice the giant slalom (2019 and 2023). Starting well in the first round (2nd), her compatriot Paula Moltzan subsequently missed and made a mistake which prevented her from finishing the second round. On the Blue side, we find three in a row with Chiara Pogneaux (24th, at 4”84), Marie Lamure (25th, at 4”88) and Caitlin McFarlane (26th, at 5”01). The next meetings of the season are scheduled for early 2024 in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia), with a giant slalom (January 6) and a slalom (January 7).
