Alpine skiing: Mikaela Shiffrin equals the women’s record for the number of World Cup successes

Gorgeous Mikaela Shiffrin! By triumphing in the giant of Kranjska Gora, the 27-year-old American won the 82nd victory of her career and equaled the women’s record for the number of World Cup successes held by Lindsey Vonn. For her part, Lara Gut-Behrami finished in a good 3rd place.

Mikaela Shiffrin dominated the proceedings to win with a margin of 0.77 over the Italian Federica Brignone and 0.97 over Lara Gut-Behrami. Now the Vail skier has her eyes fixed on the last remaining objective: Ingemar Stenmark’s record and his 86 successes.

Un 68e podium pour Gut-Behrami

Largely at the top of the general classification of the World Cup, Shiffrin also returns to the race for the giant globe since Marta Bassino took “only” 5th place. Lara Gut-Behrami is 3rd in this ranking and she also picked up a few points at the Transalpine. The Ticino woman fought hard to get the 68th podium of her career, her 17th in the discipline where she is the reigning world champion.

In the Swiss camp, we can also be satisfied with the good performance of Andrea Ellenberger. Ranked 29th at the end of the morning course, the 29-year-old Nidwalden took advantage of a “clean” track to return to the top-15 (12th). Four other Swiss women scored points. Camille Rast finished 22nd, Wendy Holdener 23rd, Simone Wild 27th and Michelle Gisin 28th.
