Alpine skiing: Marco Odermatt in the footsteps of Hermann Maier

In Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s camp, people have obviously resigned. At least when it comes to the fight for the big crystal ball. “Even if Aleksander won all three races in Kviftfjell and Odermatt didn’t score a single point there, Marco would still be 57 points ahead in the overall World Cup. And following that, there are still two races in Odermatt’s flagship discipline, giant slalom, on the program in Kranjska Gora,” calculates Christian Höflehner, head of racing at Kilde’s outfitter Atomic.

But what if Kilde suddenly puts on the giant skis once more and finds his way back to his old strength in this area? As a reminder: Shortly before he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in January 2021, the Norwegian finished 4th and 5th in the two giant slaloms in Adelboden.
