Crans-Montana will host the world championships for the second time in 2027, 40 years following an edition that has remained in Swiss collective memory. The Valais bid was accepted by the FIS Council.
Failed for 2025, the Valais bid was preferred to Soldeu/Andorra, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Narvik. Crans-Montana was acclaimed by the FIS council. The Haut-Plateau station obtained 11 votes, once morest 3 for Narvik and for Soldeu, and only one for Garmisch-Partenkirchen. “It’s a magical moment that we have just experienced“, dropped Marius Robyr, president of the candidacy committee, during the 7:30 p.m. of the RTS.
“Superb for Valais and all of Switzerland”
“Everyone was hand in hand before the announcement, we are a close-knit team. This is superb for Valais and for all of Switzerland. I am already looking forward to organizing these Worlds. But before talking regarding organization, we have to celebrate“, he added. “Obtaining the 2027 World Championships is the reward for the excellent work of the whole team in recent years“, rejoices for his part the Aargauer Urs Lehmann, president of Swiss-Ski and vice-president of the Bid Committee.
Marius Robyr, who is also the boss of the ladies’ World Cup races organized in Crans-Montana, expects a “spectacular ski festival which will be attended by more than 200,000 spectators and, once once more, breathtaking Swiss performances on the snow“.
