Less than two hours following the coronation of Friborg Mathilde Gremaud in slopestyle, Corinne Suter (27) won gold in the queen competition, the downhill. World champion in 2021 in Cortina, the Schwyzoise has proven that she has the physical and moral resources to shine in major events.
She is the sixth Swiss woman to reach the top step of the podium in the discipline. Others? Hedy Schlunegger in 1948 in St-Moritz, Madeleine Berthod in 1956 in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Marie-Thérèse Nadig in 1972 in Sapporo, Michela Figini in 1984 in Sarajevo and Dominique Gisin in 2014 in Sochi.

Corinne Suter beat two Italians: Sofia Goggia, who injured her knee during the super-G in Cortina on January 23 (2nd at 16 hundredths) and Nadia Delago (3rd at 57 hundredths).
The other Helvetians have remained far from the portrait of honours.
Winner of the last training, the Bernese Joana Haehlen (30 years old) landed in 6th place (at 1”29). Graubünden Jasmine Flury (28) finished 15th (at 2”13) just ahead of Olympic super-G champion, Ticino’s Lara Gut-Behrami (30), 16th at 2”16.
Swiss Olympic, which aims to celebrate 15 podiums during these Chinese games which will end on February 20, has already had ten occasions to celebrate. The governing body of Swiss sport collected five gold and five bronze medals.
