Nothing is going well between the Minister of Justice, Alphonse Charles Wright and the president of the Association of Guinean Magistrates (AMG), Mohamed Diawara. The two frequently attack each other through the media.

After the justice of the peace of Boffa, Ibrahima Sow and the public prosecutor at the court of first instance of Boké, Lansana Cissé, last June, the minister Charles Wright suspended the judge of the TPI of Labé, Moussa Camara for “insufficiency professional “. This prompted the AMG to accuse the Keeper of the Seals of attempting to interfere in judicial decisions alluding to the Dame Asmaou Diallo case which is making headlines.

Charles Wright reacted vigorously to these accusations. “When I hear people say that there is a standoff, I am sorry to say that there has never been a standoff between the Minister of Justice that I am and the Association of magistrates. One should not confuse the Association of Magistrates composed of all the magistrates of Guinea, the magistrates of the Supreme Court, those of the courts and tribunals in general with an executive office of the Association of Magistrates managed by an emotionally unstable president and which does not manage to federate the interest of the magistrates for whom we fight daily in a spirit of outspokenness and discussions”.

In addition, Minister Charles Wright added that when he took office, he had reassured that he was once morest no one. But, he accuses in return the president of the AMG, Mohamed Diawara of having a grudge once morest him for not having benefited from an appointment. “Justice is a big family. You have magistrates, bailiffs, notaries, commissioners and lawyers. When he (Mohamed Diawara, president of the AMG, Editor’s note) came to my office the day following I took office, at the time we were on the eve of the various appointments of magistrates. He told me he wanted to be attorney general. He came to ask me the problem. Without making this today an unacknowledged cause for personal interests, this is what drives me to clarify the opinion. For an ordinary topic, how people can beat their chests. I told him it’s all regarding fate. If he has not found his name as attorney general, he has a certain frustration. The proposal to a position of responsibility, I was clear with him. I can’t nominate him as an attorney general. A magistrate must beware of doing such a thing, everyone must keep their serenity, ”revealed the Minister of Justice.

It should be remembered that the showdown between Charles Wright and the president of the Association of Guinean magistrates, Mohamed Diawara, began with a declaration signed on August 13, 2023, in which the structure dissociated itself from certain actions of the supervising department. She had denounced, among other things, the publication on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Justice, of injunctions to prosecute a magistrate, without prior referral to the Superior Council of the Judiciary. Thus, Minister Wright subsequently suspended Mohamed Diawara from his duties as special prosecutor at the juvenile court.
