Scuderia AlphaTauri finished the 2023 F1 Australian Grand Prix final with Yuki Tsunoda in 10th place and Nick de Vries in retirement. De Vries had the misfortune of being rear-ended by Sargent on the final restart, dropping into the gravel and ending the race. Yuki Tsunoda struggled with his car from the start of the race, but when he left the pitlane for the final time he was 11th once more, before Sainz’s penalty moved him up to 10th, giving AlphaTauri his first of the season. Earned points.
Jody Egginton (Technical Director): “It was a difficult race today. The pace was lacking on all tyres, the speed in the straights was lacking, so in some scenes we weren’t able to attack or hold our position. There’s a lot of data that needs to be reviewed and we will prepare as best as we can for Baku. Yuki Tsunoda (10th) “I have mixed feelings regarding today. With the pace of our car, we didn’t expect to score any points, and given that we were struggling quite a bit to get the hard tires into the optimum window before the red flag, we were able to put our performance to good use. I think we should be happy with the result of 10th, which is the best we might get out of it, it’s a shame that 5th was revoked following the restart because we were able to overtake a few cars. It’s a positive result and we will continue to work hard to score more points in the upcoming races.”Nick de Vries (DNF)”Sadly the incident with Logan[Sargent]forced the race to be canceled. It’s over, it’s been a tough day today but I think the hard tyre’s early stages were good, unfortunately it was red flagged so all the drivers who started on the medium tyre, got a free pit stop to change to the hard tyre. Also, I damaged my front wing during the race, so I started having understeer and graining in the tyres. The battle in the midfield is fierce, so I will keep pushing and aim for the top.”
