At an age when others have long since taken it easy, the Mühlviertel rally crosser Alois Höller (Ford Fiesta 4×4) will be taking on the 2023 season on April 22nd and 23rd in Melk. He celebrates his 66th birthday at the anniversary “50 Years of Rallycross in Austria”.
Höller has shaped this sport like no other: With a total of 43 championship titles, he is by far the most successful Austrian rallycrosser in history. At the anniversary race, he wants to prove that it doesn’t have to end at 66: “I’m looking forward to getting started once more. I’m fit and I want to show that even at my age you’re still at the forefront can be,” the Götzendorf native is excited regarding the start of the season.
All the more so as he used the winter to whip his car into shape. The technical Achilles heel of last season was corrected with new differentials, and a lot of work was done on the engine. There are now significantly more than 500 hp, which make the Ford Fiesta 4×4 a real “rocket”. This was tested for the first time under racing conditions at a test race in Maria Pocs, Hungary, at Easter. With sixth place in an international class field, the “rollout” under racing conditions was satisfactory. There should be even more on April 22nd and 23rd at the Wachauring, Höller has his sights set on the first top place of the year. He can look forward to a great backdrop, as the organizers of the anniversary event around Jürgen Weiß have invited numerous legends: Franz and Alexander Wurz, Herbert Grünsteidl, Andy Bentza, Erich Hammerler as well as Rudi Stohl and Franz Wittmann have confirmed their attendance.
With classic vehicles such as a Lancia Stratos, a Porsche 954 or a legendary ‘dog bone’ escort, the protagonists of the past can also be admired live in action.
