A woman from Montérégie came very close to losing a million-dollar prize won at Lotto Max, having simply forgotten to validate her ticket for almost a year.

Without knowing it, Stéphanie Vila won a Maxmillions on October 18, 2022, but neglected to have her ticket validated until September 18, Loto-Québec reported in a press release.

She had her ticket validated in a store, first by a self-service machine, then by a clerk to ensure that the amount of one million that was displayed was not an error.

“I can’t believe I had a million dollar bill in my wallet all this time! I almost lost my prize! », exclaimed the lucky Montérégie woman who had bought her ticket in a Super C in Longueuil.

Ms. Vila found her ticket while cleaning out her wallet before leaving on her trip. She now plans to take advantage of this unexpected windfall to travel even more.

The Monteregian’s stroke of luck might have turned into a real mishap since the winners have a maximum of one year to claim their prize.

Moreover, another Maxmillions won in Lotto Max on October 18, 2022 with a ticket acquired in Estrie is still looking for its owner. Other large amounts, including a sum of $255,827 won in Lotto 6/49 on November 5, 2022, will also expire in the coming weeks, underlined Loto-Québec, inviting Quebecers to check their tickets.
