The first recording of Emilie Mayer’s piano trios is a discovery: in terms of sound, interpretation and composition. Emilie Mayer was honored with the highest praise in her time, her concerts were attended by majesties and high-ranking personalities, her music was “equally placed alongside most of what the world of music artists has brought to light”. Her piano trios awaited publication unpublished, only the pianist of the trio, Katharina Sellheim, dared to take the step towards interpretation.
The Berlin composer, born 210 years ago, asserted herself once morest the prejudices of the “enlighteners” Rousseau and Schlegel, she succeeded in winning over leading critics and leading a life as an artist “without the binding bond of marriage”. A creative broadcaster and an exquisite record label have made the production possible, which chooses the appropriate title in the booklet text: “Missing Link of the 19th Century”. What is still missing: courage for those who program concerts, as well as curiosity and open-mindedness on the part of the audience.
