The NHL Stadium Series has established itself as a fixed point in the national hockey schedule in recent years – the 12th edition of the open-air spectacle took place last night.Last night, the Nashville Predators and the Tampa Bay Lightning dueled at Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans football team. It was both teams’ first appearances in an outdoor Stadium Series game. Nashville competed in the 2020 Winter Classic once morest the Dallas Stars. The Preds lost that game 4-2 in front of nearly 86,000 fans at Cotton Bowl Stadium
In front of a crowd of more than 68,000 fans, Tampa was to prevail 3-2. Veteran Steven Stamkos provided the game winner in the 52nd minute in favor of the Bolts. Thus, Nashville also lost its second outdoor game. According to official attendance figures, the 2022 edition of the Stadium Series is just behind that of 2016, when the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens dueled at Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium.
The venue for the 2023 NHL Stadium Series has also already been set: on February 25, the event will take place at Raleigh’s Carter-Finley Stadium. Who will be the opponent of the Carolina Hurricanes is still uncertain.
