Almost 2,000 attacks on health centers by Russia

“This is the highest number the WHO has ever recorded in a situation of urgent humanitarian need on a global scale,” the European wing of the organization noted in a statement.

Attacks on health facilities, which have intensified since December 2023, are increasingly dangerous, the WHO also noted.

“Last year, 24 deaths of healthcare workers and patients were recorded, but during the first 7.5 months of 2024, a total of 34 people died following attacks against healthcare services” in Ukraine.

A total of 166 people have been killed and 514 injured in these attacks since the conflict broke out.

Today, on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, the UN denounced the “unacceptable” violence that tends to become commonplace against humanitarian workers. A total of 280 died worldwide in 2023, a record number fueled by the war in Gaza and at risk of being broken in 2024.
