Almost 173 thousand has already been paid to the farmers of Alytus district. EUR support

More than 5 thousand are kept in Alytus district. Cows.

Gintarė Jociunskaitė, director of the Alytus district municipality’s administration, taking into account the decision of the Agricultural and Rural Community Projects Financing and Evaluation Commission, distributed financial support to residents of the Alytus district who keep dairy cows and farmers.

Farmers complained that when they sell milk, recently they get only 10 or 14 euro cents for 1 kilogram of milk, such a purchase price of milk is unprofitable for farms, some of them are even considering giving up dairy cows. The Alytus district municipality is the only one in Lithuania that decided to provide support to farmers in such a situation.

“After all, these are the residents of our municipality, we cannot leave them to the will of fate,” says Mayor Algirdas Vrubliauskas.

According to Gintarės Jociunskaitė, the director of the municipality’s administration, in two weeks, the residents submitted almost 800 applications, which were promptly assessed, and currently the residents have already received cash payments.

Residents were allocated 30 euros for each dairy cow kept, and farmers with more cattle received 3,000 or 7,000 euros.

“The support provided by the municipality may not solve all the problems of the dairy farm, but that money is important for farmers, it will help them survive temporary difficulties,” Algirdas Vrubliauskas, the mayor of Alytus district, is confident.

Under the Agriculture and Rural Communities Project Financing Program, financial support is also provided to farmers who applied for the purchase of certified seed.
