The last load of the transport was delivered on Monday. This concerns a total of 10.4 billion euros in gold and coins, and 4.5 billion euros in notes. The stock came from Haarlem. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee was involved in the move in the context of the security of the transports.
It involved more than fourteen thousand bars of gold of regarding 12.5 kilos each. The gold coins were spread over just over a thousand trays and chests. The amount of gold from DNB that is now housed in Zeist is 31 percent of the total stock. The rest of the gold is stored in vaults in New York, London and Ottawa.
The Cash Center in Zeist is now fully operational, according to DNB. Banknotes are checked and sorted at that location. From the city centre, DNB delivers banknotes and coins to security transport companies, which in turn transport them to banks, ATMs and shops. The Cash Center also houses the National Analysis Centre, which examines and registers counterfeit coins and banknotes.
There was a temporary storage facility in Haarlem, where supplies arrived from Amsterdam in October 2020. This move was necessary because the DNB office in Amsterdam is being renovated.
Because supplies were housed elsewhere, less strict security was required in the capital. Because the stocks are now in Zeist, the head office must also become more accessible to the public. The renovation of the office in Amsterdam must be completed by the end of 2024.
