Almost 1,000 parking spaces will be lost at the new Oslo hospital

– This will lead to the need for a different distribution and prioritization of places, says Geir Teigstad, director of Oslo hospital service, to Avisa Oslo.

Before the construction of the new OUS started, there were a total of 4,500 parking spaces at Rikshospitalet, Aker hospital, Radiumhospitalet, Ullevål hospital and the other hospitals. 60 per cent of these are prioritized for employees, says Teigstad.

– Over the past three to four years, we have lost around 550 places.

When construction work on the new hospital is finished, there will be a total of 2,950 parking spaces left. That means 950 places less than before the construction period, a total of 1,500 places.

– Oslo municipality’s parking regulations dictate that we must radically reduce the number of parking spaces. The climate, traffic and environmental aspects are also pulling in the same direction, says Teigstad.

Teigstad says that the hospital has made arrangements for increased bicycle use with many new bicycle parking spaces and a bicycle wash at Ullevål Hospital. This is passed on to the new hospitals.

Employees at OUS were informed just before the public holiday that parking prices would increase by 40 per cent from 1 August. This amounts to an increase of NOK 2,280 a year.
