Their first two EPs quickly established themselves as Insider, and now they’re ready to go everything Album length: The quintet from the small Swedish town of Karlskoga, located between Stockholm and Oslo, has a progressive metalcore style that often leans into djent and extreme metal, and is also tied to a similarly strong visual composition. “From the New World Fight nerves and fears and strive to discover yourself.

After a brief introduction, “Remnant” sums up the Swedes’ unique approach – it really isn’t the worst reference for someone like Vildhjarta to dare to make a metalcore album. The lyrics alone are a fusion of ideas, with buttery soft vocals, toasty power and tangible darkness before the massive chorus embraces a steely edge. Brutal pressure, sweaty grooves and a clunky but eye-catching webbed metal insert just keep escalating. The same goes for “Orphan Breed,” which is gritty and even goes a step further in elemental violence, with at best a basic connection to metalcore. The approach from incremental to experimental synthesis is outdated.

It’s this drama with its genre expectations, combined with its poignant analysis of the self in a desolate world always on the verge of collapse, that makes it interesting. For example, on “Cycles” you have a lot of fun when a rather catchy but dissonant chorus bursts out of the undergrowth, almost immediately destroying the clear vocals, and then demolishes everything with Djent and prog , and at the same time completely exhausted. “Aquila” also proves to be a play with trends, power relations and sometimes contradictory approaches, from which ultimately some catchy tunes emerge.

What everyone does here is broken and exhausting, breaking down boundaries and setting the scene for music that’s chaotic both internally and externally, yet etched in your memory. Of course, “metalcore” is more of a temporary term for what the Swedes were doing on their first album, and it’s almost entirely accurate, but not even close. From the New World is a progressive, desolate, aggressive work of art made even more visually intense. In order to be able to empathize and empathize with Nordic cross-border commuters, good nerves are a must. Like the previous EP, this one is definitely worth it.
