Alloprof extends its service period for the summer

As nearly 20,000 high school students in Quebec begin their summer courses and prepare for retake exams, Alloprof professionals are ready to offer support. This year, the organization is extending its summer services from July 10 to 31, 2024, providing assistance by phone, text, chat, and through its Support Zone.

Alloprof has also conducted tours of schools in Quebec, Montreal, Laval, and Montérégie to present students with thousands of practical and free tools. These tools are designed to help students fully understand their challenging subjects and practice their skills, ultimately allowing them to pass their exams and progress to the next stage of their academic journey.

Here’s a look at the impact and use of Alloprof tools during the 2023 summer school period:

● Alloprof has assisted students 525,000 times across all services;

● The Alloprof team responded to over 55,000 requests in the Mutual Aid Zone (a 50% increase compared to the previous year);

● 250,000 concept sheets were consulted on the Alloprof website;

● Math and French were the subjects that generated the most questions, as in previous years.

“For students, learning that they have to take summer classes or retake exams is likely one of the worst pieces of news they can receive during their school career: it increases feelings of failure and often affects their self-confidence,” explains Pascal Bonaldo, Alloprof’s student services manager. “When our team works with these young people during our school tours or as part of our Ask a Teacher service, we take the time to highlight their perseverance and the efforts they have invested in improving. Most importantly, we ensure they have access to the best resources to fully understand the subject,” he adds.

Tailor-made tools for ministry exams

Alloprof offers a variety of exercises, worksheets, videos, and cheat sheets specifically designed to help students master the concepts covered in ministry exams. Regardless of the subject, Alloprof’s team of teachers is available to answer students’ questions via chat, text, or phone from Monday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The website also features numerous exercises to reinforce understanding and consolidate materials, exam simulations in certain subjects, and 30-minute videos called MiniRécups to validate comprehension. For the single French exam in secondary 5, students can access a help session presented by teachers, available on YouTube and TikTok.

Reducing the impact of learning slippage

Alloprof acknowledges the importance of rest and enjoyment during the summer to recharge and have fun. However, for many students, summer can also lead to a loss of academic achievements and a decline in learning due to a phenomenon called the “summer slide.” To prevent this, Alloprof provides parents with several activity ideas to ensure their children have fun while keeping their brains active for a confident return to school in September.

Pascal Bonaldo, Alloprof’s student services manager, eloquently underscores the emotional challenges often faced by students during the summer months. “For students, learning that they will have to take summer classes or retake exams is probably one of the worst pieces of news to receive during their school career. It increases the feeling of failure and often damages their self-confidence,” he explains.

Above all, we make sure to provide them with the best resources to fully understand the subject.”

Tailored Support for Ministry Exams: Helping Students Master the Material

Irrespective of the subject, students can connect with Alloprof’s team of teachers through chat, text, or phone from Monday to Thursday (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and Sundays (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.). The website serves as a comprehensive learning hub, offering a plethora of practice exercises, exam simulations for certain subjects, and engaging 30-minute videos known as MiniRécups, designed to reinforce comprehension. Students preparing for the French exam in secondary 5 can access helpful sessions presented by Alloprof teachers on both YouTube and TikTok.

Combatting the Summer Slide: Keeping Learning Alive

While summer is a time for relaxation and rejuvenation, Alloprof recognizes the significance of preventing the “summer slide,” a phenomenon characterized by learning loss and academic decline during the break. To combat this, Alloprof provides parents with numerous activity ideas to keep their children’s minds engaged and learning active over the summer months.

The organization’s website offers valuable guidance for parents seeking ways to make learning fun and engaging for their children. By incorporating educational activities into summertime routines, parents can ensure their children return to school in September feeling confident and prepared.
