According to “profil”, from 2006 to 2023, a total of 175 applicants for public jobs in Austria felt that their career advancement was hindered due to their worldview and turned to the Federal Equal Treatment Commission. The Ministry of the Interior alone accounted for 124 complaints.
In the Ministry of the Interior, this high proportion is justified by the size of the department and the many hierarchical levels. In addition, only a fraction of the posts were actually filled with complaints.
In more than every second case, the complaint was upheld (in 65 cases, party-political discrimination was found). Between 2011 and 2023, the losing candidates were awarded half a million euros in compensation.
