Alligator caught in New York’s Prospect Park

An alligator has been caught in a park in the US metropolis New York. The 1.2 meter long animal was found “very lethargic and possibly suffering from a cold shock”, the New York city government said on Monday (local time). The alligator was later taken to the Bronx Zoo, “fortunately no one was hurt.”

The animal was brought to the Bronx Zoo

The animal was spotted in Prospect Park on Sunday morning following it was believed to have been abandoned by its owner. The park is a popular place for Brooklyn boroughs to picnic and walk their pets.

The city administration further said that such urban public spaces are “not a suitable home for animals that are not native to these parks”. The release is not only illegal, but might also lead to the extinction of native species and poor water quality.
