Irina Starikova has been on the radar in Ukraine for a long time: according to Ukrainian information, the Serbian, born in 1981 according to her papers, has been fighting once morest the Ukrainian army in the Donbass areas in eastern Ukraine annexed by Russian separatists since 2014. She is also said to have executed prisoners – Starikova is said to have killed a total of 40 people.
As the Ukrainian army is now reporting, the 41-year-old, codenamed “Bagira”, is said to have fallen into their hands injured. Their comrades from the ORDLO units, i.e. fighters from the “independent” regions of Ukraine, are said to have thought them dead and left them on the battlefield when they retreated. She has received medical care and is said to have agreed to cooperate with Ukraine.
Serbia denies
But her story might be even more exciting. Loud Ukrainian media reports from 2018, “Bagira” is said to actually be a woman named Daniela Lazovic Act. This is a former volleyball player who entered a convent and became a nun. However, this was only a cover for numerous drug smugglers, which is why she was serving a prison sentence.
The Serbian Interior Ministry has now denied the rumors that Starikova and Lazovic are the same person. In their statement, they write that Daniela Lazovic was arrested in October 2020 and has been serving a six-year sentence in Pozarevac prison ever since. The woman in the picture is also a different person than Lazovic.
