CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian Legal Aid and Human Rights Association (PBHI) Julius Ibrani said that PBHI will report the alleged criminal act of personal data theft by Dharma Porengkun-Kun Wardhana to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Headquarters to be followed up in accordance with applicable law. Dharma, who will run as an individual candidate in the Jakarta gubernatorial election (pilkada), is suspected of stealing data related to the collection of identity cards (KTP) as a requirement for support for individual candidates.

“Firm legal action needs to be taken to provide a deterrent effect and maintain the integrity of the election process,” said Julius in a written statement, Friday (16/8).

He urged the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Jakarta Regional Election Commission (KPUD) to re-examine the identity card (KTP) data of independent candidate Dharma Pongrekun-Kun. As reported, Dharma is suspected of stealing data to be able to participate in the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

“The KPU and KPUD DKI Jakarta must immediately re-examine the KTP data collected on behalf of independent candidate Dharma Pongrekun-Kun,” he continued.

He stressed that if the allegations are proven to be data misuse, Dharma Pongrekun-Kun’s candidacy must be immediately revoked or canceled. In addition, he urged the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) to conduct an investigation.

Bawaslu, he said, needs to conduct an investigation into the carelessness or violations committed by the KPU in inaugurating the independent gubernatorial candidate in the name of Dharma Pongrekun-Kun.

“Firm action must be taken to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future,” he said. (H-3)
