Alleged Salvadoran gang member remained in Guatemala with four active arrest warrants

The National Civil Police (PNC) reported the arrest of an alleged gang member. This is a man from El Salvador who remained in Guatemala evading justice in his country.

The man was identified only as Francisco, alias “Chita,” 38 years old. He is related to being an active member of the Mara 18 gang, according to authorities.

The arrest report states that the suspect was located in the Villa Hermosa 1 neighborhood. However, when analyzing his identification data with Interpol, they discovered that the subject had four arrest warrants in his country.

The first of these was recorded in February 2017, the second in September 2018 and the third in 2019. All of them were for the crime of aggravated extortion in the form of a continuing crime.

The last arrest warrant once morest him is dated June 26, 2019 for the crime of threats. All judicial resolutions were issued by the First Substitute Peace Court of El Salvador.

The alleged gang member was handed over to Interpol to coordinate his expulsion. So far this year, 55 alleged gang members from El Salvador have been located in the country; of which 19 are detained in Guatemala and 36 have been expelled.
