Alleged members of the “Los Carnales” structure accused of extortion are arrested

The National Civil Police (PNC) reported that in operations carried out on Tuesday, August 27, they captured four alleged gang members from Barrio 18 accused of extortion.

Investigators conducted investigations in San Miguel Petapa and Villa Canales, Guatemala; and in Escuintla.

Lesli “N”, 25, was captured in Palín, Escuintla; María “N”, 45, was arrested in the village of Chichimecas, Villa Canales.

While Mayra “N”, 58, was captured in the village of San José El Tablón, Villa Canales; and María “N”, 35, in zone 4 of San Miguel Petapa.

At the Men’s Preventive Center in zone 18, inmate Jorge Mario Miranda Silvestre, 26, was notified of a new arrest warrant, and at the Santa Teresa prison in zone 18, Stefany Anayancy Gálvez García, 26, was notified.

According to the PNC, all of them are presumed responsible for the crime of extortion, with an arrest warrant dated August 23.

He added that the aforementioned persons are alleged members of a criminal structure called “Los Carnales”, from the Mara 18 gang, who allegedly demand extortion payments from their victims under threats.

In another case

The PNC added that on Los Próceres Boulevard, zone 10, police from the 13th Precinct captured Tomás “N”, 26, accused of the crime of extortion.

So far in 2024, at least 1,249 extortionists have been captured nationwide, according to the PNC.
