Among the many investigative duties, a search was carried out on Friday evening at the office of the assistant to the Belgian MEP Marie Arena, at the Brussels headquarters of the European Parliament. This parliamentary assistant was hired by Marie Arena to look into issues relating to Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo a year ago.
She previously collaborated with Fight Impunity, the NGO headed by Pier-Antonio Panzeri, the former MEP arrested as part of this corruption and money laundering investigation instructed by Judge Claise. It was in the context of this previous job that the searches took place.
The information was confirmed to us by the MEP of the S&D group: “I have an assistant who worked for an NGO for six months. This assistant was heard as a witness to be able to bring evidence to the investigation. She worked with this NGO. If she can bring evidence to an investigation that is currently underway, well, she must actually participate in this work.“, specifies Marie Arena.
