The attorney for the family of a teenager who allegedly discovered a camera in a bathroom aboard a Boston-bound plane earlier this month is speaking out regarding the “scandalous act.”

Attorney Paul T. Llewellyn told NBC10 Boston in a statement Sunday night that “it is shocking that a sexual predator might brazenly attack a minor while she is using the bathroom on a flight.”

Llewellyn also issued a statement on behalf of the family he represents, saying his 14-year-old daughter was “the target and victim of a child predator who filmed her while using the bathroom” aboard American Airlines Flight 1441. from Charlotte to Boston on September 2.

“We have no doubt that this was perpetrated by the only flight attendant on board, who directed her to use the first-class restroom in coach, entered just before her ‘to wash her hands,’ and then told her that the seat was broken and ‘not worry regarding it,’ and went back inside immediately following she left,” the family detailed in their statement. “This sequence of events has been corroborated by other passengers on board.”

Authorities previously described the incident as a “potential criminal act” and a “possible security issue,” but passengers aboard the American Airlines flight told local media that a woman reported that her teenage daughter noticed the camera on the plane. first class bathroom.

Massachusetts State Police initially told WSOC-TV in North Carolina that the episode involved a minor, a flight attendant and a cell phone. But the State Police later referred to the FBI as the primary investigating agency because the episode occurred on the air, where the FBI has jurisdiction.

Law enforcement officers met the American Airlines passenger plane at the gate when it landed following the complaint, and state police escorted a flight attendant off the plane.

“After going to the bathroom, our daughter realized that on the back of the toilet seat there was an iPhone practically hidden to record her, and she bravely took a photo of this with her own phone. The very specific characteristics of the hidden phone “matched perfectly with those later recovered from the flight attendant by police, and airline representatives confirmed that the official stickers used to secure and conceal the phone would not have been accessible to anyone other than the crew,” the company revealed. family, and his attorney provided a photo of the alleged bathroom camera.

The family says their daughter, and all of them, are “shocked and deeply disturbed” by what happened.

“It is difficult to imagine that a flight attendant, charged with ensuring our safety and whom the traveling public is legally required to obey, appears to have attacked and exploited our daughter for child pornography during a flight. That someone who was allowed to to be in that position of trust – and was able to continue such reckless behavior unchecked – should surprise every parent,” the family said, adding that they are immensely grateful to the state police who met them as the plane landed in Boston , and to the FBI and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office who, they say, continue investigating this crime. “We sincerely hope that through these efforts something like this can never be allowed once more.”

An FBI spokesperson told NBC10 Boston that the agency had no comment Sunday and once more only confirmed that they responded to the incident earlier this month.

American Airlines also declined to comment Sunday night, referring any questions to the FBI.

When the incident occurred, the airline issued a statement at the time, saying: “We take this matter very seriously and are fully cooperating with authorities in their investigation as safety and security are our top priorities.”
