Allan Tánchez was dismissed as assistant prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Impunity (Feci), where he was assigned to cases such as the assault on the Ministry of Health, proceedings against journalists and raids on the headquarters of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, official sources reported.
Tánchez’s dismissal was confirmed on Thursday, September 5, by Moisés Ortiz, of the Information and Press Department of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), who explained that the former prosecutor “occupied a position of free appointment and removal.”
“Yes, he was removed from office because he held a position of free appointment and removal, in accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law of the MP, the Internal Work Regulations and the Collective Agreement on Working Conditions and in order to continue institutional strengthening, in response to the needs of the service,” Ortiz explained.
Asked if there was a specific reason for his dismissal, Ortiz insisted that it was based on the conditions under which he had been hired.
Cases
Tánchez participated in investigations related to the case against journalists and columnists of the newspaper elPeriódico and in raids on facilities of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), after Bernardo Arévalo moved on to the second round in the 2023 general elections.
Some publications indicate that Tánchez performed litigation functions without being a lawyer in the case of the assault on the Ministry of Health; however, the MP did not provide details in this regard.
The case of the assault on the Ministry of Health involves a corruption network headed by former high-level officials and deputies, who benefited from illegal commissions in the construction and remodeling of hospitals and the acquisition of medical supplies; however, the process was recently closed and several of the defendants benefited.
